Julia Osborne, PT, CLT-LANA
PORi head instructor, company founder and course creator, Julia Osborne, PT, CLT-LANA has an incredibly varied & extensive background in utilizing manual therapy techniques as a clinician - from inpatient to outpatient and from pediatrics to geriatrics across three continents.
She qualified as a Physical Therapist from the University of Cape Town in 1995 and, prior to moving to the US in 1997, practiced in both South Africa and in London, UK. In 2002, she specialized in oncology rehabilitation. After building her practice through referrals from Physicians in the Denver Metro area, she realized that the demand for her oncology rehabilitation treatments was far outstripping her capacity to take on new patients. So, in 2009, Julia founded an outpatient clinic - Oncology Rehab - focused on providing rehabilitation treatment for oncology patients.
Initially, the clinic focused on breast cancer patients and worked closely with a range of referring Physicians to ensure that patients were referred in the acute phase of their healing - a cornerstone of the clinic is early referrals. Currently, the clinic has ten therapists (specializing in breast cancer, pelvic cancers, Head & Neck cancers and oncology-based exercise) and draws from a loyal & consistent physician referral network including oncologists, radiation oncologists & surgeons.
Julia is an Affiliate Faculty member of the Doctor Of Physical Therapy Program at Regis University and teaches an introductory oncology rehabilitation class to students. Public speaking has become a successful addition to Julia’s career. She has been a speaker at the APTA 2005 Spring Conference in Denver, CO; and at the Day of Caring 2005 and 2006 Conferences in Denver, CO. She has also conducted 3 and 5 day seminars in Oncology Rehabilitation for HealthOne Medical Centers and Physiotherapy Associates. Professional groups to which Julia has presented include the American Mammography Annual Conferences, Radiation Oncology at Swedish Medical Center, Sally Jobe Breast Center Physician Conferences, and the Y-Me TeleConferences. Julia is frequently invited to speak at patient support groups and at community events in Denver.
Julia continues to increase her education by following the latest cancer research and uses this evidence to hone and develop her treatment protocols. The protocols include several different philosophies & techniques of manual physical therapy combined with lymphedema therapy to create leading-edge care to patients with cancer diagnoses.
Julia has been teaching her techniques as 2-day CEU courses through North American Seminars for the past 7 years and over this period has been progressively developing the PORi curriculum, drawing from the institutional knowledge of her clinic’s treatment of well over 2,500 patients as well as the latest cancer-related research culminating in this body systems approach. The 2-day courses continue to be a great introduction to her techniques but the 4-day certification will provide participants with full foundational knowledge and LAB workshops to integrate these methods into their oncology patient population.
